A day on the most beautiful island
in the Mediterranean
Capri is an island known worldwide for its beauty: what few people know, however, is that there are also countless walks to be done there, thus avoiding the crowding that characterises the centre of the island.
The hike starts from the port of Marina Grande, then reaches the Piazzetta of Capri by characteristic funicular, quickly crosses the centre and immediately immerses you in the typical Capri alleys, with colourful villas and gardens.
The first stop, after a climb of about 45 minutes, is Villa Jovis (the summer residence of Emperor Tiberius), overlooking the sea; then you proceed towards the Natural Arch; from there you descend to the Punta Tragara viewpoint overlooking the famous Faraglioni; then you can visit the Gardens of Augustus (another great Roman emperor who also chose Capri as a holiday destination).
From here there are 2 possible variants: the first is to continue along Via Krupp and reach Marina Piccola in a few minutes for a swim; the second is to go to Anacapri (reachable by bus in about 15 minutes), from where a comfortable chairlift takes you to Monte Solaro (587 m a.s.l., the highest point on the island).
After descending, through a short flat stretch past the souvenir shops of Anacapri, you take the ancient Scala Fenicia which will bring you in about 30 minutes back to the port of Marina Grande, from where you board the ferry for the return journey. This route gives a much more human and less touristy dimension to the island.
